July 4, 2022: The Ministry of Health of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) announced that the outbreak declared on April 23, 2022, was over.

December 16, 2021: The Ministry of Health in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) announced the end of an outbreak of EVD in Beni Health Zone, North Kivu Province, that was first declared on October 8, 2021.

October 8, 2021: The Ministry of Health of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) announced that a new laboratory confirmed case of Ebola virus disease (EVD) had been detected in North Kivu Province. Earlier this year, an EVD outbreak affected North Kivu Province which was declared over on May 3, 2021. (WHO)

The WHO stated on 10 October, 2021, "On 8 October 2021, the Ministry of Health of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) announced that a new laboratory confirmed case of Ebola virus disease (EVD) had been detected in Butsili Health Area, Beni Health Zone in North Kivu Province. Earlier this year, an EVD outbreak affected North Kivu Province which was declared over on 3 May 2021 (WHO)."

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommended pre-exposure prophylaxis vaccination with rVSV-ZEBOV for adults ≥ 18 years of age in the U.S. population who are at potential occupational risk of exposure to Zaire ebolavirus. This includes adults who are esponding or planning to respond to an outbreak of EVD; laboratorians or other staff working at biosafety-level 4 facilities that work with live Ebola virus in the United States; or healthcare personnel working at federally designated U.S. Ebola Treatment Centers (CDC). Adults who fall into these categories can find more information on the Ebola vaccine at the CDC page on expanded access to the Investigational New Drug (IND) program.

The National Emerging Special Pathogens Training and Education Center (NETEC) was stood up in the wake of the 2013-16 Ebola Epidemic, which highlighted the need for rapid response and dissemination of information during an outbreak. NETEC remains prepared to support the global response to Ebola.
