Description: This guidance document includes information on handling Marburg virus waste, and links to other relevant resources.

Marburg virus is a Category A pathogen and Select Agent. Any waste potentially contaminated with Marburg virus, including laboratory waste and specimens from suspect cases, should be handled as Category A waste in accordance with the guidance from the Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.
