Description

The Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) purpose is an incident management system based on the Incident Command System's (ICS) principles. It assists hospitals and healthcare organizations in improving their emergency management planning, response, and recovery capabilities for planned and unplanned events, including special pathogen activations. HICS is consistent with ICS and the National Incident Management System (NIMS) principles. This module will discuss Hospital Incident Command System considerations for special pathogens activations.

Objectives

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of this module, the participant should be better able to:

  • Define the five primary management functions of the hospital incident command system.
  • Describe the roles and responsibilities of the incident commander, command staff, and general staff.
  • Describe the operational considerations for various roles of the incident command staff for all-hazard and special pathogens activations.

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION

In order to receive a certificate of completion, you must complete these steps.

  1. View the entire HICS learning module.
  2. Answer all knowledge-check questions in each lesson.
  3. Complete the NETEC course evaluation
  4. Submit the course evaluation Completion Attestation

The estimated time to complete this activity is 60 minutes.

There is a Certificate of Completion available for learners that complete the module and evaluation, but there are no continuing education credits available.
