Lassa virus infection can result in a broad spectrum of clinical signs and symptoms, from asymptomatic or very minimal symptoms to the severe manifestation, a viral hemorrhagic fever. In addition, the early symptoms of Lassa fever are similar in nature to those of other common viral illnesses, including influenza, which makes it difficult for clinicians to identify early on.
